Who is Janklin?

Janklin opens the door where it was once closed.

As a descendant of Indigenous Mexican, Scottish and German ancestors, I understand the complexity of holding both the oppressor and the oppressed in my DNA. After immigrating as an uninvited settler and guest to Canada from the United States, I saw the familiar megaphone of assimilation, discrimination and hate bellowing it’s devastating sounds.

Diverse voices have been misrepresented and maligned, and handing over the megaphone to those ignored is necessary in shaping a world we both yearn for and deserve. In systems designed to close, to quiet or to keep hidden, the beauty and song found in those silenced must be restored. We must embrace the things that make others unique, harness the voices of those within our communal spaces and champion collective liberation and reconciliation.

A communications consultant and cultural champion.

I integrate both my lived experiences and the intersectionalities of others into my consultations and communication strategies. I empower you to create welcoming, curious, and kind spaces where culture is celebrated and difference is honoured. Leaders need to recognize and address systemic barriers. Together, in community and in care, we will bring to light the harm of our single sided stories taught to us since we drew breath in our Western world.

We must create change if we want to tell a different story - a story where we live the fullest of ourselves, a story where we create meaningful change and a story that can’t help but be amplified for generations to come.

Our world is better with all of us at the table.

We live in a world that’s more connected than ever before. We are connected to cultures, ideas, and traditions from across the globe. We naturally seek out community and belonging because, as humans, we’re wired for connection.

Let us call each other in for calling people out separates us and limits our ability to connect even the greatest of differences. Change is not something to be feared, but staying the same is the slow death that cripples the very community and world we were destined for.

Whether you’re an educator, business owner, team leader, or community builder, I’m here.

“You’ll never work with someone with more integrity who delights and connects with everyone with whom she collaborates. Looking for someone to take your project to the next level AND bring the team together? You’ve just found her. "
